Falling behind

3 12 2009

Wow – as the team comes together and the practices go into full swing, my time to do other things (like this) seem to become less and less – sorry.

Well, third practice tonight, forming a committee, sorting out a constitution, opening a bank account and generally sharing out the load between the ladies who have come and stayed :D

we are quite a formidible bunch of girls at the moment, the skating is coming along well and everyone is excitedly coming up with their derby names….

Tonights practice is going to be run by some of the other girls – should be cool.

Am trying to sort out Insurance for the team, but the quotes are either no or really expensive, but we need insurance, a committee, bank account etc, in order to be able to apply for funding, get access to practice venues and so forth, so it is all a balancing act.

Anyway, must fly, work to go to (and that is really hectic at the mo, which isn’t the most helpful) christmas is flying into view and hubbie is in the US for a conference, so pet survival and house not burning  down responsibilities are all with me – yikes.

will try to blog more often….try……

Arrangements in Hand

16 10 2009

I am busy beavering away to sort out some concrete plans.

If you have expressed an interest in joining the team, i will have emailed you, if i haven’t please shout at me and i will :D

Trying to figure out all the finer points of the whole operation, it is really complicated, but hopefully once i get over this hurdle, it will actually get to some skating – yay!

This bit seems a bit headachy, so would love to get to the point where the team is regularly meeting at a stable venue and we can start sorting out what the hell it is we are supposed to be doing.  I have enough info on drills and rules and equipment and stuff to sink a battleship, so i better figure out from all the info what is the most important thing to do first.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for positive things to come from my requests, will hopefully see the results of it after the weekend.  Off to London for a party on saturday, so i may be a little offline until monday…….

Training

9 08 2009

So training begins.

First steps to skate back and forth, go slowly but surely.  Not broken legs, pets or furniture (have started training around the house).  Gaining confidence everyday by keeping at it.

Certain bits feel a bit stiff – ankles, backs, but i think a bit of work on this will change the situation.

Still need to get myself a mouth guard, elbow pads  and a helmet and then i can happily throw myself on the floor a bit more.

Also trying to find info on the web about training drills, safe falling and so forth – there are bits and pieces out there, so i am filling in a little notebook so i can gather all these tips and pass them onto teammates when they materialise :D
