Rolling up and down is still hit and miss. I haven’t managed to brain myself on the furniture (but maybe falling down a few times would take away the fear
)
I am still a bit wobbly and weak and there are still those moments staight out of the cartoons where legs are travelling in opposite directions and clinging to the door is the only way to stop myself falling on my face.
Trying to figure out where i can go outside and skate in the dead of night that no one will see me…..
just still seems a bit weird for a 30 year old woman to be taking up rollerskating and rollerderby. But i don’t want to be one of the those people who just goes through life afraid of getting hurt and doesn’t try new things anymore – i used to be a lot more adverturous (i think and i don’t want to lose that).
I have noticed that there is an existing rollerdisco in Derby that still runs regular nights – i think i might have to start going to this regularly to build up my skating legs…….
Logo, names and team names are all in progress this week and once i get to a point where i have chosen them i might see if i can drum up some more support for the venture. Met a friend for drinks last night and tried to sell the virtues of RollerDerby to her – i think she is in the same fear place – so i think i might be able to bring her around. Am going to drag her to Darlington for Northern Exposure to get her hooked (hopefully).
Off for a run tonight and keeping up regular squats and lunges to improve my leg strength. Think i might treat myself to elbow pads and a gum shield this weekend.

So training begins.
First steps to skate back and forth, go slowly but surely. Not broken legs, pets or furniture (have started training around the house). Gaining confidence everyday by keeping at it.
Certain bits feel a bit stiff – ankles, backs, but i think a bit of work on this will change the situation.
Still need to get myself a mouth guard, elbow pads and a helmet and then i can happily throw myself on the floor a bit more.
Also trying to find info on the web about training drills, safe falling and so forth – there are bits and pieces out there, so i am filling in a little notebook so i can gather all these tips and pass them onto teammates when they materialise
